The 2024/2025 school year at GIMS began with the excitement of a return filled with reunions, learning, and shared moments. On September 10, we opened our doors once again, warmly welcoming students, families, and our teaching team. With the start of this year, we launched activities that reach beyond academics, focused on strengthening our sense of belonging and community spirit.
A Warm Welcome
The return to school was filled with joy. Teachers, assistants, and all the school staff dedicated themselves to welcoming students, whose energy brought life to the classrooms. It was more than just the start of a new year; it was a reunion with a community where we continue to grow together.
First Celebration of the Year and Peace Day: A Time for Togetherness and Reflection
On September 27, we held our first big celebration of the year, which included commemorating Peace Day. It was the perfect opportunity for both new and returning families to enjoy an afternoon of conversations, laughter, and delicious food. As part of the celebration, students participated in reflection activities, singing “Light a Candle for Peace” together and reminding each other that peace begins within.
Classroom Highlights: Exploration, Awareness, and Creativity
In every classroom, we started the year with special activities connecting learning with the world around us.
Children’s House
Our youngest students began the school year by exploring nature. With the “Welcome to Fall” activity, they ventured outdoors to observe seasonal changes. They also discovered the art of Yayoi Kusama, known for her vibrant, dotted artwork, and planted hyacinth bulbs in class—a project they will nurture and observe throughout the year.
Lower Elementary
The elementary students launched into projects that invite them to think about what unites us globally. For World Post Day, they wrote letters to family members and visited the post office in La Zubia, experiencing the process of sending their own messages. On World Food Day, each student researched a country, created its flag, and prepared a traditional dish to share with classmates, participating in a communal meal that highlighted the richness of cultural diversity.
Upper Elementary
For our upper elementary students, the start of the year included a visit to the Albaicín neighborhood and the Aljibe del Rey, the largest remaining Nazarí cistern. This excursion allowed them to discover the cultural heritage of their surroundings and learn more about the history of their community.
A Beginning that Brings Us Together
hese first weeks have been full of moments of learning and connection, fostering values of respect, curiosity, and empathy in every child. This start to the school year reaffirms our commitment to an education that not only teaches but also connects and enriches each member of our community.
As Maria Montessori said, “Education is a natural process carried out by the child and is not acquired by listening to words but by virtue of experiences in the environment.” We continue moving forward together, creating a space where every child can grow, explore, and flourish at their own pace and in harmony with those around them.
Thank you for being part of our community. We look forward to a wonderful year filled with discoveries!
