Independent & Collaborative

You’ll see children figuring things out by themselves, but also coming together to help each other, share ideas, and work things through as a group.

Curious & Adaptable

They try, they stumble, and they try again, learning something new each time. Curiosity and resilience become part of who they are.

Bilingual & Self-Motivated

Our students grow comfortable in both English and Spanish. And they learn to stick with something because they want to, not because they’re told to.

Respectful & Responsible

Empathy is something we practice every day. Children learn to own their choices, to care for their space, and to support each other.

OUR APPROACH

Montessori is a whole new way of understanding what children need in order to thrive. Most schools follow a fixed curriculum, expecting children to adapt. Montessori, on the other hand, focuses on the child and asks, “What do you need right now to become your best self?”. Montessori schools draw on over a hundred years of observing how children actually grow and learn.

Programmes by age

Children's House — Ages 3 to 6

This is where independence begins. In Children’s House, children use real, hands-on materials: pouring, sorting, building, creating. They build confidence, focus, and self-control in their own way, and on their own schedule.

Lower Elementary — Ages 6 to 9

Here, curiosity finds its first big questions. In Lower Elementary, children step into the “Great Lessons”: the story of the universe, the story of life, the story of language and numbers. These big, imaginative ideas spark endless questions, and children chase them through research, storytelling, and hands-on work.

Upper Elementary — Ages 9 to 12

Now curiosity grows into real inquiry. In Upper Elementary, children take their questions further, leading their own research, debating ideas, and working through complex projects with growing independence. It’s also where fairness, responsibility, and leadership start to matter as much as facts.

Life at GIMS

Every child needs room to grow, and gentle limits that help them feel safe.

Over a decade ago we built our school around a simple idea: children learn best when they feel safe, trusted, and able to explore their world with confidence.

When materials are always within reach and children are allowed to make their own choices, they learn to trust themselves and build real independence.

In our mixed-age classrooms, little ones learn by watching the bigger kids, and the older ones get to teach and lead, which helps everyone grow. Nobody’s hurried. Each child finds their own rhythm.

"We serve the future
by protecting the present"— Maria Montessori

Why families trust us

The community of families that build Granada International Montessori School keeps growing because they trust what we do.

We opened our doors in 2015 because one family wanted something different for their children. Since then, we’ve built a new way of understanding education in Granada, and have become the first internationally accredited school.

Being accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA-CESS) means we hold ourselves to high standards in how we teach and in how we care for every part of our school community.

GIMS was a really beautiful environment for our children to land when we lived in Granada for 2 years. We were hoping for a very quality and personalized education that also provided a warm community where our children could feel safe and connected. We felt so lucky that GIMS really met all of our hopes. The teachers truly care about both the well being and the educational journey of the children. I highly recommend this school and their teachers.

My two boys have been going to GIMS for the past two years and I'm very excited for my daughter to join them next year! Instead of giving a review of the school I will quote my son who has said many different times, "mama, thank you for bringing us to this school". It's such a blessing to hear that as a mother and I'm so grateful to the entire GIMS team for making school a safe haven for my kids <3

We have been in Granada for 4 months and couldn’t be happier with our decision to enroll our daughter (age 4) at GIMS. It is a bilingual school for ages 3-12 that 100% embodies the Montessori philosophy. It made the transition from the United States so much easier knowing that she loves going to school, and we especially appreciate that the teachers are incredibly responsive to our daughter. It’s obvious that they are paying close attention to her and that they truly care about her development. We also love the patio where the kids can play and create. Not to mention, the organic garden from which they source many of the ingredients for the children’s lunches is quite impressive. Speaking of food…. Our daughter started out this year as a picky eater, and we worried that she wouldn’t eat any of the very healthy lunches that GIMS serves. I don’t know how they did it, but now our daughter often loves the lunches at GIMS, and we’ve seen her palate expand at home, too. Finally, we have to praise the other parents at GIMS. Being new to Granada, we weren’t sure what sort of community we’d be able to find, but the other parents at GIMS have gone above and beyond to welcome us. From day one, they have been invaluable for everything from playdates and social outings to which hospital to visit when that inevitable winter cold wreaks havoc. We are confident in saying that our daughter will likely never attend a better school. And all the Spanish she is learning is an added bonus!
